Meiko: Today I'm talking to Merrick, colonel of the Mayfall army. Colonel, I've heard stories that you haven't been on very good footing with the State government lately. Is that true?

Merrick: Oh, you think I wasn't on good footing with a bunch of complete idiots? What ever could make you think so?

Meiko: So it's true, then? What exactly was causing this friction?

Merrick: Mayfall is my home, it's my duty to protect it, but they? They just treat it like it was some kind of tool you can use when you need it and throw away when you're done. To them it's just a convenient buffer zone to shield Matrech from Kirgard.

Meiko: Surely that's not completely true. After all, the State Union put a lot of effort into taking back Mayfall after General Keyser's invasion.

Merrick: For their own security I'm sure. Did you forget why I'm here now? They threw away Mayfall because they wanted to get their grubby hands on Highland again. Well, screw them! I'm done with all this bullshit!
